Cocoa Oatmeal

Ok, so sometimes I wake up craving chocolate. Does this happen to anyone else?! I’m sure it must. Anyway, instead of going to the kitchen and reaching for a chocolate biscuit etc. I whip up this quick healthy breakfast which satisfies the craving. I have differing variations as you can see on my Instagram feed (google HCRinstacam or, preferably, search for HCRinstcam on an Instagram app) and this is one of the many varieties!

Recipe for Cocoa Oatmeal

Ingredients for one serving: 

  • 1/3 cup oats
  • water (varies depending on how thick you like it – if using a microwave to cook, though, like I often do, make sure not to add too much as it will spill everywhere and make a mess!)
  • 1 1/2 tsps cocoa powder
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup (less or more is fine)


Add everything to a saucepan (if cooking on a hob) or microwavable bowl and stir.

  • If using a hob cook for a few minutes being sure to keep stirring until it thickens to desired consistency.
  • If microwaving then pop in the microwave for 2mins for relatively thick oatmeal.

Serve with fresh berries.


TIP: For extra ‘chocolatyness’ (new word I just created…) add some dark or extra dark chocolate chips / chunks / broken chocolate pieces when cooking as they will melt deliciously into the oats. Mmmm!
